Practical Effects in Film

While less common today, practical effects were what our early cinema was founded upon. As necessity is the soul of invention, techniques in makeup, painting, set design, stage contraptions, and creative lighting developed their magic progressively until CGI became a more favored media for effects. Above we can see the classic “Play Dead” compared to the use of special effects makeup to create macabre scenes and stories.
